The mission of International Equine is to provide responsible stewardship and long-term development of thoroughbreds who compete and win at the highest levels of racing. We focus on the improvement of the breed and surround our equine athletes with passionate people who support their progression from young horse to racehorse. We are strongly committed to the thoroughbreds under our care, as well as the industry and individuals around them.
When identifying thoroughbreds for breeding or racing, we focus heavily on genetics, international pedigree research, and the often-overlooked influence of the female family. Our long-term plan is to “race to breed,” with an overall goal to build stamina, speed and most importantly, durability into the North America and European Thoroughbred. We utilize a time-tested method of acquiring athletes early in their lives, either as weanlings or yearlings. This allows us to control the development process and be patient with each individual athlete.
When acquiring horses of racing age, we never waiver on our evaluation criteria and only select a few opportunities each year. We specifically look to identify turf runners who we believe have a propensity for the surface, either via pedigree analysis and/or via biomechanics.
We are steadfast in our evaluation of proper conformation and look for well-balanced athletes. Primarily designed as a “race to breed” organization, we hope to pass along the best attributes of worthy broodmare candidates to the next generation, thus improving the breed over time. Our process is thorough, patient, and diligent. In any given year we evaluate hundreds of thoroughbreds; we choose only a few.
The Thoroughbred exists because its selection has depended, not on experts, technicians, or zoologists, but on a piece of wood: the winning post of the Epsom Derby. If you base your criteria on anything else, you will get something else, not the Thoroughbred.
